Children's Ministries
Children Are Our Future!

Children are very important to us in the life of this congregation. We work hard to make room for our children in every aspect of congregational life as we gather for worship, instruction, fellowship, service, and recreation (which is God's grace of re-creation). In order to make this happen, we are careful to nurture the faith of our children and leaders and encourage a deeper understanding of biblical and doctrinal truths. We endeavor to help children and leaders develop a spiritual dependence on and trust in God, encourage children and leaders to make the church's confessions and teachings their own, and work to develop skills and attitudes that are crucial to spiritual life ... such as understanding and responding creatively to Scripture, worshiping and praying together, talking about one's faith, cultivating a sense of wonder and praise, and sharing in the ministry of the church.

Programs and forms of ministries that might interest you and your child(ren) are as follows:

The weekly Sunday School meets from 9:30 to 10:15am. For the Winter Schedule all pre-school and elementary grades will be using the curriculum titled, 'We Believe: God's Word for God's People' as our children study and absorb the parables and teachings of Jesus.

Children are exposed to resources that involve them in a Sunday worship experience for their specific age group. Based on the Revised Common Lectionary, children enjoy exposure to Bible lessons, stories, singing, crafts, and weekly worksheets.

The weekly Wednesday Kirk Night which begins with a 5:30pm supper in the Fellowship Hall followed by choral groups for three age groups, and a multi-age Bible study group led by Merry Brace.

The Prayer Warrior Ministry is being revised to accomodate all of the new children in the congregation. This is a program coordinated by Kay Keeler (522-1492) that incorporates adult volunteers who covenant to pray daily for every child and youth of the church.

An 'Invitation to the Table Workshop' is conducted at least twice a year to prepare baptized children for communion during worship. We look at what communion is, why communion is important for us as Christians, and the logistics of taking communion here at Sea Island.

The summer months always include the fun-filled and action-packed Vacation Bible School, a week camp provided by the SIPC Day School, the Bethelwoods Day Camp, and of course the conferences sponsored at the Bethelwoods Conference Center in York, SC for elementary children and middle school youth. A Music Camp will be added in the Summer.

Come and enjoy learning, praying, playing, and singing!
